In short
A Careers360 analysis published on 23 October 2026 finds that 12 of 54 deemed-university medical colleges in MCC’s NEET PG counselling now charge over ₹2 crore for at least one three-year MD/MS course, up from 8 institutes in its 2025 analysis. Nearly 40% of the 1,000-plus PG courses it checked cost over ₹1 crore. The highest reported figure is about ₹2.61 crore at Dr DY Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai. Four Tamil Nadu colleges that became deemed universities this year raised some PG fees by up to 1,471%. Deemed seats also need a ₹2,00,000 MCC deposit.
Updated 25 October 2026. The fee figures come from Careers360’s analysis with medical education counsellor Muzaffar Khan (23 October 2026). KollegeApply (24 October 2026) reports the same headline numbers: 12 of 54 institutions over ₹2 crore, a ₹2.61 crore top fee and nearly 40% of courses over ₹1 crore. College-by-college figures below are reported only by Careers360, so treat them as reported, not official. The 2025 comparison is from Careers360’s 11 November 2025 analysis. MCC deposit figures are from Careers360’s Round 1 live page (24 October 2026). We did not open each college’s fee notice, so check the fee on mcc.nic.in and the college’s own published fee structure before you lock a deemed-university choice.
The headline numbers
| Measure | 2025 analysis | 2026 analysis |
|---|---|---|
| Deemed colleges analysed | 44 (about 720 courses) | 54 (over 1,000 courses) |
| Institutes with a course over ₹2 crore | 8 (15 programmes) | 12 (23 programmes) |
| Share of courses over ₹1 crore | 313 courses, about 42% | Nearly 40% |
| Costliest reported course | Santosh Medical College, Ghaziabad, MD Radiodiagnosis, ₹2.28 crore | Dr DY Patil Medical College, Navi Mumbai, about ₹2.61 crore |
The figures are total course fees for three years. Careers360 says they include cumulative tuition and the major one-time charges taken at admission, but not hostel or mess. Some colleges also raise fees by 2.5% to 10% a year, and NRI-quota seats cost more. The 2026 article puts last year’s over-₹1-crore share at 34%, while the 2025 article reported 42%; the two analyses cover different sets of courses, so compare the trend, not the exact percentage.

As reported by Careers360 (23 October 2026). Its table gives ₹2.61 crore for DY Patil Navi Mumbai’s dermatology course, while its text and KollegeApply attribute ₹2.61 crore to radiodiagnosis, so confirm the branch on the college’s fee sheet. Careers360 also reports that Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune now charges ₹1.69 crore for dermatology and radiodiagnosis.
Why four Tamil Nadu colleges jumped
Careers360 reports that four Tamil Nadu colleges given deemed-university status in 2026 raised PG fees almost 16 times, or by 1,471%, in some cases. They are Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Medical Sciences (Kancheepuram), St. Peter’s Medical College (Hosur), and Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Institute of Medical Sciences and Srinivasan Medical College (both Trichy). Their dermatology and radiodiagnosis courses are listed at ₹1.5 crore to ₹1.65 crore for three years. The report says the state government opposed the change and has challenged the conversions in the Madras High Court; we have no further detail on that case.
The reason fees can move this way: deemed universities set their own fees. Careers360 quotes Muzaffar Khan saying the NMC Act allows fee regulation for 50% of private and deemed seats, but the regulator has not enforced it. NMC’s 2022 fee guidelines were challenged by institutes in court.
What this means for a low or mid NEET PG rank
- Deemed seats fill late and go deep. High fees are one reason clinical seats at deemed colleges can stay open into Round 2, Round 3 and the stray round. That is an opportunity only if the full course cost is affordable.
- The deposit is not the fee. MCC takes a ₹5,000 registration fee and a ₹2,00,000 refundable deposit for deemed-university counselling, as Careers360 reports. Tuition is on top.
- Compare the full cost. A ₹2 crore course before hostel, mess and yearly increments can cost much more by the end. Our hidden costs guide lists what fee sheets leave out.
- Look at cheaper clinical paths too. Our least competitive clinical branches and NEET PG low-score options pages cover DNB and state-quota routes.
What to do in the next 10 days
- If you got a Round 1 deemed seat, check its total fee on the college’s published fee structure before you join by 2 November. See our NEET PG 2026 counselling schedule.
- Build a fee column into your Round 2 list (registration from 6 November, tentative). Do not list a deemed college you cannot pay for.
- Verify the college with our checklist and pay only through the official process.
- Track your state quota round in parallel; state-quota private fees are often regulated.
