In short
Securing an MBBS seat in a government medical college requires an exceptionally high NEET-UG score, typically above 620 marks. Scoring between the qualifying percentile and roughly 300 marks does not rule out an MBBS degree in India. Through open-state private college counselling and centralised deemed university counselling, thousands of qualified candidates secure NMC-approved seats every year. This directory lists them with expected cutoffs, annual fees and the counselling authority for each.

What counts as a low NEET score?
NEET-UG General/EWS qualifying score jumped in 2026
| Category | Percentile | Minimum score |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 50th | 213 marks |
| OBC / SC / ST | 40th | 177 marks |
Percentiles are fixed; the marks they correspond to are set each year by the difficulty of the paper and the size of the candidate pool, and they moved a long way between 2025 and 2026. Below the qualifying score there is no admission route to MBBS in India at any fee. Cutoff ranges elsewhere in this directory were compiled from earlier counselling cycles and are being re-based on 2026 rounds: where a listed floor is below the qualifying score for your category, the qualifying score is the real minimum. Open state quota (state DGME counselling). Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and West Bengal allow non-domicile candidates to apply for private college seats. UP and Bihar open 100% of private seats from Round 1 with no domicile certificate, at the lowest fees in the country — roughly ₹10–13 Lakhs a year.
Deemed universities (MCC counselling). Every deemed seat is allotted on all-India merit with no domicile requirement. Cutoffs fall to just above the qualifying percentile in the mop-up and stray vacancy rounds. Fees run roughly ₹18–26 Lakhs a year.

Estimate the real cost
The advertised annual tuition is not what an MBBS degree costs. Tuition is paid for 4.5 years, accommodation for five including the internship year, and most colleges hold a refundable security deposit as well.
Total MBBS cost estimator
The advertised fee is annual tuition only. This adds the years, the hostel and the deposit.
Admission is centralised, and that protects you
Under National Medical Commission rules every MBBS seat in India is allotted through online merit counselling — MCC for deemed universities, the state DGME for open-state private colleges. Fees are paid directly to the institution against an allotment letter. Offline cash-for-seat admissions are illegal, buy nothing enforceable, and can result in the seat being cancelled after payment.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get an MBBS seat in India with a NEET score under 200?
Only if you have qualified in your category. The 2026 minimum is 213 marks for General/EWS and 177 for OBC/SC/ST, so under 200 marks that means an OBC/SC/ST candidate at 177 or above. Qualified candidates in the lower part of the range secure seats through MCC deemed university counselling, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Maharashtra, and through open-state private college counselling in the later rounds. Below the category qualifying score there is no route at any fee.
Is a donation required for a low NEET score admission?
No. All MBBS admissions in India are regulated by the National Medical Commission and conducted through centralised online merit counselling. Fees are paid directly to the university against an allotment letter, with no offline capitation fee. A payment made outside the portal buys nothing enforceable and can cost the seat.
Which states allow students from other states in private medical colleges?
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar open 100% of private medical college seats to candidates from any Indian state, with no domicile certificate required. Haryana and West Bengal release unfilled seats to non-domicile candidates in the later rounds. Deemed universities have no domicile requirement at all.
What is the lowest total package for private MBBS in India for a low NEET score?
The lowest total packages start around ₹55 Lakhs to ₹68 Lakhs for the 4.5-year course including tuition, hostel and mess, in open states such as Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Deemed university packages run considerably higher, roughly ₹95 Lakhs to ₹1.35 Crore.
Can I get a private MBBS management quota seat without qualifying NEET?
No. Under National Medical Commission regulations NEET-UG qualification is strictly mandatory. No college or deemed university in India can admit a student who has not cleared the NEET cutoff percentile, under any quota or at any fee.
What is the difference between management quota and NRI quota?
Management or general paid quota seats are allotted purely on NEET merit to Indian citizens through open counselling at the standard college tuition fee. NRI or NRI-sponsored seats are roughly 15% of seats, reserved for Non-Resident Indians or candidates sponsored by a genuine NRI relative, and carry substantially higher fees usually quoted in US dollars.
What is the cheapest way to study MBBS in a private college in India?
Open-state private colleges in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, at roughly ₹10–13 Lakhs a year, are the lowest-cost NMC-approved route. Budget for five years of hostel and mess and a refundable security deposit on top of tuition — the advertised annual fee is roughly half the real cost of the degree.
