Minimum Marks Required for Private MBBS Admission (2026)

In short

The minimum for any MBBS seat in India — private, deemed, management quota or NRI quota — is the NEET-UG category qualifying percentile: the 50th percentile for General and EWS, which in 2026 is 213 marks, and the 40th percentile for SC, ST and OBC, which in 2026 is 177 marks (General-PwD 194). The percentile is fixed; the marks moved a long way from 2025, when they were 144 and 113. Below the qualifying score, no institution in India can legally admit you at any price.

Percentiles are fixed; the marks they correspond to are set each year by the difficulty of the paper and the size of the candidate pool, and they moved a long way between 2025 and 2026. Below the qualifying score there is no admission route to MBBS in India at any fee. Cutoff ranges elsewhere in this directory were compiled from earlier counselling cycles and are being re-based on 2026 rounds: where a listed floor is below the qualifying score for your category, the qualifying score is the real minimum. Qualifying makes you eligible. It does not make a seat available. The lowest entry floors in this directory sit around 130–140 marks, and those are deemed university seats in the final rounds at ₹19–25 Lakhs a year. A candidate exactly at the qualifying mark has options only in stray vacancy, only at the highest fee levels, and only if registered from the beginning.

Why “management quota without NEET” is always a scam

Under National Medical Commission regulations every MBBS seat is allotted through centralised online merit counselling against a qualified NEET result. There is no quota, no category and no fee level that exempts a candidate from that.

An offer of an MBBS seat without NEET qualification is one of three things: a fabrication, an admission to a course that is not MBBS, or an admission to a foreign institution whose degree will not be licensable in India. Families lose very large sums to all three every year, usually in the weeks after results when the fear of losing a year is highest.

The verification is simple and free: every genuine allotment appears on the MCC or state DGME portal against your own registration. If it is not on the portal, it is not a seat.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get private MBBS admission without NEET?

No. NEET-UG qualification is mandatory for every MBBS seat in India under National Medical Commission regulations, including management and NRI quota seats. No college or deemed university can admit a candidate below the category percentile at any fee.

What is the minimum percentile for MBBS in the general category?

The 50th percentile, which for NEET-UG 2026 corresponds to 213 marks (it was 144 in 2025). The percentile is fixed; the marks it equates to move each year with the difficulty of the paper and the size of the candidate pool.

Is the qualifying percentile lower for reserved categories?

Yes. SC, ST and OBC candidates qualify at the 40th percentile, which is 177 marks in 2026 (113 in 2025), and General candidates with benchmark disabilities at the 45th percentile, 194 marks in 2026. The qualifying threshold differs; the requirement to qualify does not.
